Cake update!!!

I haven't posted many cakes here lately so I thought I would update you on the latest. First cake is Rob's birthday cake.  He celebrated his 35th birthday on the 8th of April. Even though Rob isn't a huge sweets person I knew that I had to make him one or I would never hear the end of it.  I went really simple.  Some times simple is best.  This turned out to be the straightest, most level cake I have done.  Even though it was plain I was very proud of it.  

Next was last weekend.  I was asked to make a Mushroomhead cake for Tiffany's husband's birthday.  Tiffany is one of Cameron's teachers.  Mushroomhead is a heavy metal band that is her husband's favorite so she was thrilled when I said I could do it. 

And that brings me up to today.  I have decided to undertake my most ambitions cake to date.  One of Cameron's friends Ella will be three next week. Ella's mom Laurie asked if I would be able to do a princess cake for Ella.  I maybe crazy but I agreed.  So below is the approved drawing (not to scale and please excuse my drawing abilities) of what Ella's cake will be.  I am doing a lot of elements on this cake.  Ella is getting a three tiered vanilla cake with chocolate ganache filling.  It will be fondanted in white fondant with fuchsia, turquoise, yellow, and pink accents.  The topper for the cake will be a fondant bow with a custom sparkly pink wooden 3.  We are also trying to incorporate a tiara in the bow below the 3.  So I hit Joann's Fabrics today and got the supplies for the 3 and started that (pictures to come later) and next I will work on the bow and some of the flowers.  This will be a lot of work and it all has to be done by Thursday the 7th.  We will see I will try to post updates as the cake progresses.

On a side note I was very flattered when today the owner of Gymboree ask me to think about donating a cake or a gift certificate for a cake to a charity silent auction she is working on.  She said it is a way to drum up business and get my cakes out there.  I am not really sure if I am ready for that yet.  I don't think that I am anywhere ready for something like that.  I don't know.  I may just have to talk to Meshell a bit more before I decide.  Maybe after I see how things go with Ella's cake!!!

Boys!!!

So I had to post this. This morning Rob, Cam and I were downstairs watching tv (Kenize is at a sleepover). Rob and Cam were sitting in Rob's recliner. All the sudden Rob asked Cam what do you say when you fart? Cam said "Daddy farted", Rob said "No that was you, what do you say?" So Cam said excuse me. Then he gets up and looks at Rob and says "It stinks there I sit with mommy!!!" I was trying not to laugh at the conversation going on with them but at that point I bust out laughing. I just couldn't hold it any longer. Stuff like that only happens when you have boys!!!!

I have a ton of pictures from different Easter related activities we have done this past week but I wanted to share a few of our favorites from today.

Friends

While we were in New Egypt we of course went to visit my best friend Christa and her family. Christa and Justin's daughter Juliette's birthday was the end of March and I brought her gifts with us because one of them was a little too big to mail. So after dinner on Saturday we headed over to their house (only two minutes up the road) to deliver the gifts. Juliette was thrilled to get more gifts and have some friends over to play. She immediately wanted to open up her Aqua Doodle mat and draw. We stayed downstairs with the kids for a while then we adults headed up to the kitchen for coffee and tea. It was really great just the four of us sitting around the kitchen table talking. I really hate that they live so far away and that we don't get to do that more often. Rob even commented how nice it was just being with friends and that it is a shame we don't get to do that more often. Kenzie, Cameron, and Juliette stayed down in the family room playing and watching tv. One of the gifts we gave Juliette was a pair of Croc Mary Janes. While we were there she made Christa put them on her. The next day when Christa came to my parents house she said that after we left and they put Juliette to bed she refused to take them off and slept with them on all day and even wore them the next day. That girl loves her shoes.

The next day just the girls came over to my parents house to get in one more short visit before we left. It was nice. Juliette loved when I took her picture and showed it to her. Every time I would show her she would smile and say "that Juliette". Christa wasn't as thrilled

with me taking her picture. She always says that she looks horrible but that is such bull. I have known her for 23 years and have never seen her look bad once. At the end Cameron even got a little sugar from his girl friend. It didn't take much to convince them to kiss.

1st Haircut

So on our trip to Jersey Cameron became the proud new owner of his very first haircut. He really still doesn't have all that much hair but it was very uneven and crazy. I tell him all the time that he has crazy Einstein hair. As you can see in the picture he wasn't thrilled with getting a haircut. We had him sit on Rob's lap so that he would sit still, and as you can see Linda didn't let Rob get in her way at all. While he didn't cry he wasn't happy about it either. His haircut turned out really cute. Cameron loves it because it is now short enough to be able to spike it up in Stegosaurus hair again.

New Do

This past weekend the family took a short trip up to New Jersey. After MacKenzie's skating lesson we all headed up to Jersey. First stop (literally) was as the beauty shop for haircuts. Kenzie was looking forward to this haircut because I let her decide how she was going to get her hair done. I only had two requirements: 1. That she be able to take care of it herself and 2. that it be long enough that if it is bothering me I can pull it out of her face. Her hair cut ended up not being very different then before. The main difference is that it flips out instead of under. It is by far not my favorite haircut on her but it is what she wanted and she is very happy with it. You can't win them all.

MacKenzie recently had an assembly at school where the students were presented with a book of stories that each one of them wrote and illustrated all by themselves. The school had the stories of each child published in their very own hard back book. After the presentation of the books the parents were invited back to the classroom for cake and juice. We are very proud of the work that she did on this book and so is she.
